For your discussion section, think critically and provide your personal opinion. Here you need to explain whether you found any issues with the study. Outline what you think were strengths and weaknesses of the study. Importantly, you need to suggest future research directions.
Part 3: Internal validity
In terms of internal validity, you should consider construct validity- a study’s ability to measure what it claims to be measuring. Consider whether how the researchers measured what they were interested in, or if further questions remain unclear from their methodology.
Part 4: External validity
In terms of external validity, consider how well you think the study’s findings might generalize. Do you think the researchers would find similar results with other participants? How might you suggest researching these questions? This should lead to a natural conclusion for Part 5.
Part 5: Consider our third seminar debate activity and our discussion of anorexia nervosa. Now consider the research paper you just read. Is this a culture-bound syndrome? Why or why not?
